To establish the Al Azhar masjied as a leading, progressive Islamic institution that fosters holistic growth in society.


To serve the community in terms of promoting the Al Azhar masjied as a centre of ibadah encompassing learning/education and social development.


  • To promote Al Azhar as a centre of learning – progressive, visionary; capitalize on lecture series and expand with guest lecturers/topics
  • Implement madrassah program
  • Develop a post matric education course
  • Consolidate Trust Deed
  • Develop effective communication channels with mureeds and community in general – website/email; sms; mimbar; announcements; regular general meetings
  • Update membership database – consolidate database & implement fee subscription
  • Put in place a succession plan for various roles in the masjied
  • Develop a universal calendar – start communication with like minded individuals/organisations – Executive & Sheigh to take the lead on this issue. Assume a leading and progressive role on this and other issues
  • Development of vacant land
  • Develop/formalize a comprehensive burial service
  • Manage the Masjied’s financial affairs optimally and sustainably

Adiel Jansen

Adiel is presently a District Court Control Prosecutor with the National Prosecuting Authority. He is an admitted Attorney. Adiel has a BA (LAW) & LLB degrees obtained from UWC.

Adiel has been involved in the community since the age of about 20 years old. He previously served on the Committee of Majlishush Shura al Islami for about 10 years and served on the Committee of Tennyson Street Mosque in Salt River.

Nasif Gamieldien

Nasif was born in District Six on 11 December 1957.

He attended Raghmaniyeh primary school and matriculated from Trafalgar High in 1974.

He is currently a teacher.

He has been serving on the Al-Azhar masjied committee since 1988 and is currently serving as a trustee.

He has also served on the Executive Council of Majlisush Shura Al-Islami and Shura Trust from 1980 to 2011.

Natheer Mallick

Natheer is employed at Mezaan Building Services as its Health & Safety Officer and Project Manager.
